Replacing worn or missing hood trim can refresh a winter coat without replacing the whole garment. To choose a real fur hood replacement, compare the look and feel of each fur, measure the hood edge, and check how the trim attaches.
How fox, silver fox and raccoon fur differ
Fox fur generally has shorter hair tips and a dense, compact appearance, with less overall volume than raccoon fur. This is especially noticeable in Arctic fox fur, which is particularly dense.
Silver fox fur has longer, more pronounced hair tips. Its layered texture can resemble raccoon fur, although each fur type has its own appearance.
Raccoon fur has long guard hairs and a textured, dimensional look. Its longer hairs create a distinctive outline around a hood.
All of my genuine fur hood trims are made from high-quality Finnish fox, Finnish raccoon or Finnish silver fox fur. Since natural fur varies, shade, texture, density and hair length may differ slightly from one trim to another.

Measure your hood before choosing a trim
Use a flexible tape to measure along the hood edge where the trim will attach. Measure the attachment edge, not the outer tips of the existing fur. Compare that measurement with the length options shown on the product page. Custom sizes may be available if a standard length does not fit.
Check the backing width and attachment method
Trim length describes how far the fur runs along the hood. Backing width and visible fur width are different measurements, so check the details for the specific listing rather than relying only on an S, M, L or XL label.
Attachment details vary by style. Check whether the trim has lining, loops, fabric strips, buttons or another finish. Existing buttons or snaps on your coat may not match the new trim. For help, compare your hood with the product details or read the How to Attach Your Fur Trim guide.
